Students of Grades 9 and 10 have the option to participate in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examination process.
At OIS, we provide a two-year programme of instruction that develops successful students, giving them excellent preparation for their next steps in education, including progression to The International Baccalaureate Programme.
Our students build understanding and knowledge required for progression, and also learn and develop thinking skills to become independent learners who are equipped for life.
At OIS, Gr.9 students are required to take 8 courses
The courses offered are:
English Language & Literature,
Math (International, Extended or Core)
Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Environmental Management)
Humanities (History, Business & Management, Economics, Global Perspectives)
World Language (French, Spaish or Hindi)
Arts & IT (Music, Drama or Computer Science)
An additional subject selected from Science, Humanities or Arts & IT.
For students who opt for the IGCSE exams take them in May/June of the 10th grade year. These exams are graded externally. However, all students will receive an OIS report card that is separate from the IGCSE results.
In order for a student to move on to do the full IB Diploma they must meet the following requirements:
Receive an OIS grade of B or above in at least three of the required courses in grade 10.
Receive an OIS grade of C or higher in English Language & Literature in grade 10.
The grades a student earns determine the choices and classes a student can take in subsequent years.
